Malachi - Self Titled LP (Halo Of Flies Records)
Saturday, October 11, 2008 Malachi begin and end this LP with some oddly fashioned cello vibes. They are used as an important part of the over all album. In the beginning they take time to capture your attention before collapsing upon your ears. The word Malachi means 'my messenger' or 'my angel' in Hebrew. With this being stated, the opening track "Execution is our Legacy" omits a sound that is heavy and crusty with a gloomy approach. This predicts the overall theme of the album. There is a good bit of guitar highlights throughout the album that always finds it's way back to the desolate cello sound. Haunting and aggressive could start to describe the bands sound and it is definitely applied on the second track "Attended by Blood". Nice bass lines layered through the music. The dual male/female vocals used in a back and forth, tag team kind of approach are both very ruff or gravel style. Nothing pretty about 'em but i have to say this album is more than beautiful. The tribal drums over some nice riffs build great foundations to completely demolish you. Great drums, cello, bass, dual guitar parts and harsh vocals over them have created such a great album. It has both elements of sadness and desolation at times and builds into anger and brutality. All of this amazing sound is packaged in a Limited Edition of 300 Copies that are hand numbered sleeves on Black Vinyl. The black cover is painted with black and silver ink making an extremely amazing look with a DIY feel. This immediately became a favorite in the vinyl collection. In fact, i don't believe it is available on CD at all. Get it before it's gone! http://www.myspace.com/malachimilwaukee
